Pride 2023 is happening pretty soon, so you may be considering what to wear for the celebrations. Your outfit is going to be dependent on your style and whether or not you have something you’d like to represent during the event.
A lot of people tend to wear Pride-related flags, but it is entirely up to you what sort of clothing you choose to wear. There are lots of outfit options to consider, so think about your style carefully and consider what would suit you best.
Here are some Pride fashion ideas to get you started…
Pride-related t-shirts
LGBTQ+ Pride t-shirts are a popular choice when it comes to Pride month celebrations. They are the perfect option if this is your first Pride event, or if you have something important you want to express with what you wear.
The design on the shirt itself does not need to be over the top. You could go with the standard Pride flag colours, or if you want to express and celebrate your specific sexuality you could go with your sexuality flag colours. You can then match this up with some painted flags on your face, or some jewellery. It’s a simple but effective way to get ready for Pride month!
Of course, you could go with a Pride-related t-shirt that focuses on more than just flags. You can have writing on your shirt about an important topic or movement that is close to your heart. For instance, you could write a slogan on your t-shirt to spread the message about certain rights or charities. That way, when people look at your shirt, they will know what you stand for, and perhaps even discover a new charity that they can support.
LGBTQ+ art
If you want to put a unique twist on your Pride outfit without going entirely over the top, why not create an outfit that reflects the work of an iconic LGBTQ+ artist, like Keith Haring?
You could wear the art on a t-shirt or, if you want to take it to the next level, have the art printed over your full outfit. You can then add jewels or sparkles to really set it off.
If you take your time when choosing the type of art and planning how to apply it to your clothes, your outfit will become a beautiful homage to all of the wonderful art that the LGBTQ+ community has produced over the years.
Rainbow crochet
Any type of event that is going to be in June (or July, or August, depending on when your city celebrates) means you are going to have to prepare for the summer sun.
Beyond wearing your protective suntan lotion – plus any sunglasses or hats – you need to wear an outfit that’s going to help you keep cool. You don’t want to wear anything too heavy or else you are going to overheat!
One of the Pride fashion trends that has been going around recently is crochet! Why not look into a rainbow crochet outfit that could be light and easy to wear? You could wear a crochet body suit, shorts, top, or a lightweight bolero or cape.
Body jewels
You have probably seen body jewels when you go to concerts, raves, or gigs, but have you considered wearing them to Pride?
If your outfit is lightweight, then you could put rainbow glitter and jewels around your body for some extra glamour. These can go on your face, stomach, chest, arms or legs. Just keep in mind that if you are wearing them in the sun, they may leave a tan mark!
Sequin dresses
Of course, if you are going to Pride, it is very likely that you are going to see a lot of people wearing highly glamourised outfits. If you want to join them and add extra sparkle to your Pride fashion too, you could try and pick out something with rainbow sequins. These will make you look so sparkly and will be extra reflective and colourful in the sunlight. They are perfect for Pride.
Are you ready for Pride?
Pride celebrations are always fun to take part in. You get to find like-minded people and feel accepted for who you are. At the end of the day, it is not a big deal what sort of outfit you wear – go with what you are comfortable with!
