Someone got invested tonight! ⚜️

[AD] A few weeks ago, we had the joy of travelling

[AD] A few weeks ago, we had the joy of travelling to the north of France with @dfdsuk to explore a number of French beaches. Even now, we're still talking about it.

If it wasn't the crystal clear waters and warm sandy beaches, it was exploring some of the most beautiful French towns and villages. I can't believe all of this was on our doorstep. Some were even walking distance from the port!

After living on the coast all this time it's actually shameful that we haven't done this sooner. It was super easy travelling from Brighton to Dover and hopping on a ferry to Calais. It only took two hours to get to Dover and then another two to get to Calais. The way home from Dieppe to Newhaven, whilst a bit longer, was just as smooth and got us home safely with only a short drive once we arrived back at the port.

We're already planning our next trip with #DFDS, although this time we're thinking about travelling from Newcastle to Amsterdam!

The UK Games Expo in☝️minute!

With one #UKGE already under our belt, it was only natural that we invited the boy along this year, and it did not disappoint! Although we won't be breaking it down day by day or sharing everything we did or purchased (I'll leave videos like that to experts like @cozyboardgames!) I thought I'd share some of our highlights!

🎲 Family area. This was probably where we spent most of our time as not only were there plenty of opportunities to play games old and new, but there was a lot more space for little ones to run around.
🃏 Shopping opportunities. If growing your collection is more your thing then look no further. As well as exclusive show deals and offers, stores will often sell games at a discount in comparison to the RRP. There's also a couple of stores selling from their "damaged" boxes collection (I say damaged, but a lot of the defects are hardly noticeable!)
♟️ Open table gaming! For the first time this year, we took advantage of #UKGamesExpo open gaming to play some of the games we purchased from the Expo. It also gave us a chance to gather our breath and recharge! We certainly needed it.

In terms of stalls and stands, there were a great selection of well-known and independent brands, as well as a fabulous collection of businesses selling artwork, gifts and gaming accessories. Some of our favourite stands were @kosmosgamesuk (we even took part in a Dodo Championship (don't ask)) @camdengames @atikingames @asmodeeuk @thepiratesofpenryn @geekymeeples3dprinting @gigamicworld @aletogames (finally managed to score a copy of @doomlingsgame!). Please do check them all out!

If you're thinking of attending @ukgamesexpo next year then put 31st May to 2nd June in your diaries. Ticket sales go live from December and pricing starts at £18 for an adult (kids under 11 are free!). You don't have to be a serious or professional gamer, it's all very casual and welcoming to all. We honestly cannot wait until next year and are even thinking of attending other conventions and exhibitions!

I hope your spaces are safe and people's words are kind. I hope your cup overflows and your businesses flourish. I wish you joy and happiness, and everything in between.

To our allies, may your support be vocal, genuine and true. Unwavering, constant and relentless.

To the 'phobes out there, I hope your pillows are always warm on both sides and autumnal leaves never crunch. I hope your cola is always flat and your bed is never free from toast crumbs. May your comfort this month resemble standing on Lego and upturned plugs.

What people think we want during Pride Month Vs What we ACTUALLY want during Pride Month... 🏳️‍🌈

On the eve of #PrideMonth, this is your timely reminder that Pride isn't just a chance to ✨pArTy✨ and put out some rainbow bunting, it's a protest. Sure, over the years, we've taken the opportunity to celebrate with one another also, but too often our history of how it came to be is erased. Instead, it's replaced with hollow promises or statistics made of swiss cheese placed under the guise of "allyship".

Quite frankly, as much as I adore celebrating how awesome my community is, I'm so over with what it has become for brands and the media. Don't get me wrong, some brands and organisations are getting it right, but there are too many that just aren't.

❤️ Don't tell me that #LoveIsLove when policies, laws and legislations are being written to harm us.
🧡 I don't care for your £12.50 t-shirt if our charities are only getting 50p from sales, and only that.
💛 I really don't want to be your token educator when you're not willing to listen to or promote my voice the remaining 11 months of the year.
💚 What are you really doing for your #LGBTQ employees behind the scenes? You know, the same ones you've just shoved on a poster in the name of "Diversity and Inclusion".
💙 No, I don't want to suddenly speak on your podcast in June or write you an article about what #Pride means to me.
💜 Rainbows aren't going to help the thousands of Trans people who are still trying to get equal and equitable access to healthcare.

For us, Pride SHOULD be a celebration of our wins and triumphs. It should be an opportunity for us to be highlighted and put on a pedestal. But instead, we're still at the stage of reminding folks to include us in spaces. Intersectionality is still an issue when it comes to representation, and, quite often, we don't even feel safe! More so now than ever before.

If you do anything during this Pride Month, please challenge any BS you see on here. Don't accept poor attempts at allyship and call out any exploitation. Support #LGBT folk, especially their businesses, as well as our charities and organisations.

Pride is a protest and should never be for profit.
