For years I've been told that I'm Greek, but with

For years I've been told that I'm Greek, but with elderly grandparents who died before I was old enough to really explore my heritage I never got to ask questions. But, this year, I worked to change that and, via an ancestry test, I found out that I am part Indian.

With literally no Greek in me whatsoever, it's been a lot to process and unpack over the past few months, however it's also reinforced the importance of keeping history alive. Whilst my research is still in its infancy, if my learning has taught me anything it's that we should not be silent in the face of oppression.

#ImNotPalestinianBut I'm a human before anything else, and I hold immense power and privilege to invoke change, therefore I cannot (and should not) look the other way or remain silent as civilian life, whole communities and bloodlines perish before my eyes.

None of us are truly free until we are all free, therefore everyone, especially if your ancestors have benefitted from the oppression of others, has a responsibility to do and say something. Whether that looks like an email to your MP, signing petitions, amplifying voices or taking part in a boycott - every one of us should be talking, taking action and demanding change.

History books will always benefit the oppressors, therefore we need to remain vigilant and bear witness to what is being shared and what is happening, so that history cannot not be erased, altered or re-written.

What a privilege... To be able to walk my kid to

What a privilege...

To be able to walk my kid to school and argue with him over whether he should be wearing shorts in November. Knowing that he's safe but that he'll probably feel aggrieved that he has to choose between Fish Fingers or Quorn Dippers for his lunch today. I'll probably spend the morning clearing up his bedroom floor whilst thinking about our plans for the weekend. Do we go to IKEA or finally get round to going to the tip?

I'm so lucky that I get to pick him up from school, remind him half a dozen times to put his shoes away, and then give him endless snacks whilst he tells me what games he played at break time (but not what he learnt in class!).

Later, we'll have dinner together as a family and then he'll have a bedtime story read to him, before being tucked into his bed with his Pokémon night light shining brightly and his new sheepdog soft toy as company. I'll no doubt check in on him a few hours later and listen to him breathing for a while, cover him back up and then tread on that piece of LEGO that he had been asked to pick up earlier that afternoon.

I'll then go to bed in the knowledge that we'll wake up the next morning and get to do it all again another day, but maybe this time wearing trousers instead of shorts (a girl can dream).

How lucky are we.

To be born here, and not there.
