![What a privilege...
To be able to walk my kid to school and argue with him over whether he should be wearing shorts in November. Knowing that he's safe but that he'll probably feel aggrieved that he has to choose between Fish Fingers or Quorn Dippers for his lunch today. I'll probably spend the morning clearing up his bedroom floor whilst thinking about our plans for the weekend. Do we go to IKEA or finally get round to going to the tip?
I'm so lucky that I get to pick him up from school, remind him half a dozen times to put his shoes away, and then give him endless snacks whilst he tells me what games he played at break time (but not what he learnt in class!).
Later, we'll have dinner together as a family and then he'll have a bedtime story read to him, before being tucked into his bed with his Pokémon night light shining brightly and his new sheepdog soft toy as company. I'll no doubt check in on him a few hours later and listen to him breathing for a while, cover him back up and then tread on that piece of LEGO that he had been asked to pick up earlier that afternoon.
I'll then go to bed in the knowledge that we'll wake up the next morning and get to do it all again another day, but maybe this time wearing trousers instead of shorts (a girl can dream).
How lucky are we.
To be born here, and not there.
