Although T is no longer a baby, I always still take a changing bag with me when we go out. Where there used to be SEVERAL items of clothing in the bag, there’s now two tops max and a change of trousers. A handful of toys have been replaced with a few books and one toy, and I no longer need change of top for me (I’ve said it now!).
This is not to say I’m packing any lighter – if anything it’s the same, if not heavier, now that the snacks and bottles of water take up most of the room, as well as clothing for all weathers. T no longer requires his buggy so that extra storage space I once had now has to fit on my back!
To cope with our demands, we still very much rely on our Babymule changing bag. It’s the tardis of changing bags and I have yet to reach a point in packing where I’ve had to sacrifice one thing for another. If I need it, it’s going in! If anything, I often forget about a compartment and wonder what that smell is months later (it’s usually a fermented packet of raisins!)
What I love the most about the Babymule are the hidden compartments and added extras that come with the bag. The ones that you don’t realise you need until you use another bag and then struggle because they don’t have the same features! Things like…
Being able to stick the bag in the WASH
That’s right, you can put the bag in the washing machine and it’ll come out as good as new!
Pockets within Pockets.
Using the main compartment as an example, within this area is a mesh pocket to store the removable changing push (good for storing extra wipes, alcohol gel, suntan lotion), another zipped compartment to store more precious items such as tickets or that secret chocolate bar for mummy, as well as poppers to attach other bits from the other compartments.
Water resistance
I’ve lost count of the times I’ve spilt some of my coffee onto the bag whilst it’s been underneath a table, or T has dropped his water from above, or it’s simply been rained on whilst attached to a buggy. Thankfully, these problems aren’t problems as the bag is water resistant (although not downpour proof), meaning your items are kept dry until you can get home to wash it (see point 1).
It also means you can quickly stick it on the ground to search for items.
Key Clip
Within another compartment is a key clip for, you guessed it, your keys, but it could also hold onto dummies, toys, or hair bands for safe keeping.

Little details like having a different zip tag for each compartment makes this changing bag really unique.
Picture the scene, you’re wearing your baby, the bag is on your back. You need to grab a dummy or snack, but don’t want to unload everything (yet again). Just reach round, feel for the specific zip for the compartment you need and you’re in.
Although T is turning three in April (say, what?) I can’t ever see myself going out for the day without our Babymule. It’s comfortable, the designs and colours are neutral, and it’s easy to navigate around (once you’ve found all the pockets!) and adapt into different positions. It really is one of the best.
