It’s hard not to feel green with envy when your social media is bursting with stunning interiors, gorgeous home décor and fabulous style. Even the homeowners are beautiful! And while the homes of everyday folk like you and me aren’t probably “Insta-worthy”, it doesn’t mean that you can’t spruce things up from time to time and fall in love with your living space.
You don’t have to be an expert at decorating, all you need is a little imagination, some patience and maybe a helper or two! Read on for 6 ways to spruce up your home this summer.
Enjoy!
Smarten up those skirting boards
Skirting boards? I hear you say. Yes. Those long pieces of wood that run along the bottom of each wall in your home. They protect the walls from scuffs and marks etc, but they also collect dust and can look pretty shabby pretty quickly.
You have two options here, you can either go all out and replace them like this or you can quickly give them a lick of gloss paint and see what a difference it makes. Whichever you choose, you’ll find that the room looks instantly fresh and revitalised!
Curtains and blinds
You don’t realise what an impact a good set of curtains or blinds has on a room, until you invest in them. Maybe you already have a good set of window dressings but perhaps they’re making the room a little dark and dingy? It is summer after all, so you’ll want your rooms to be as light and as airy as possible.
So, opt for a set of light coloured curtains in a thinner fabric. If you prefer blinds, then try some slatted ones to allow plenty of daylight in during the day and for added privacy at night.
Get the carpet cleaned
If you have young children, pets, simply forget to remove your shoes when you come home or have had an accident or two with a glass of wine, then your carpets could be in need of some TLC! Whether you invest in a professional to come and clean your carpets or you have a go yourself, you’ll be amazed at how much grime is pulled up from the floor and how incredibly clean and fresh your carpets have become!
Hang some new mirrors
Mirrors have the ability to make a room appear lighter and much bigger. It’s the perfect way to let the sunshine in, just remember to keep on top of your dusting!
Flowers
Why not bring a little of the outside, in? There’s nothing more uplifting and beautiful then a bunch of gorgeously fresh flowers on your kitchen side or a side table.
Flowers naturally brighten up any space and inject plenty of colour too! They always raise a smile and they’ll make you feel good. So go and treat yourself to a bunch right now!
Clean
The simplest tip is the one we like to avoid! But sometimes all you need is the opportunity to give your rooms a good deep clean and freshen everything up.
Rearrange a few pieces of furniture and you can instantly have a new look in each room!
