As a parent, you will always want to make sure that you have created the perfect home for your children. But that will always vary from family to family. Because perfect can mean messy and chaotic and lived-in to some, and calm and quiet to others.
However, all that matters is that you enhance your home in the ways that work for you and your family the best. And that means creating rooms for your kids too. After all, kids are in school for so many years – particularly if they then go on to university, it’s nice for them to have a space to study and do their school work that isn’t their bedroom.
So, if you know you have the room, here’s how you can create a space just like this…
Choose the spot
To start with, you need to choose the right spot. And this can often be either really easy or really hard. Sometimes, you’ll have a spare room that you know you can use. Or, maybe you have no idea where to put it?
When that’s the case, consider if you can use the garage or basement, or another room that you’re not really using right now.
Get to cleaning
Then, you need to clean it out. If you have any old furniture or boxes or storage or anything in there, it’s time to find a new place. If you’re replacing things like the carpet, rip it out. And then get to cleaning so that the room is prepped and ready to decorate.
Pick the paint colours
When the shell of the room is ready, you’re going to want to transform it. Now, it can be scary to bring colour into your home if you prefer neutrals – but this is for the kids, so it needs to be bright and bold.
Take a look at different cool study spaces for inspiration, and get to work. Pick out colours they will love and paint the walls ready to dress the space.
Furnish for fun
As you’re bringing the room alive, you’re going to want to keep going with that. Whenever you finish off a room, you will always want to make sure that it looks great. And, a study space should be fun and stimulating – not stuffy and boring. You want them to want to learn! So pick out cool pictures and black picture frames – maybe even cool slogans. Think about the cushions or rugs or accessories that will also bring personality to the room too.
Make it practical
Finally, because this study space is very much meant to be functional, you need to ensure that it has everything your kids need in it.
Of course, they’re going to want to think about putting in a desk and chair, but that’s not all. It’s likely that they will want bookshelves to store their books on – especially if they are a bookworm. But then also drawers for storage and maybe even shelves on the wall too. Then, it will be the perfect study sanctuary for them.
