Pebble Gear Children’s Tablet Review & Giveaway! [Ad]

Last month, we (well, T) were invited onto the Pebble Gear Tiny Testers team to test out their new range of electronic tablets for children. Partnered with Disney and GameStore Junior, the tablets give children access to over 500+ apps via a monthly subscription, which is FREE for the first year after purchasing the tablet.

For us, this was perfect timing as we were in the middle of lockdown and were giving anything a go to get us (and T) through the day. Plus, because T already has a tablet by a different brand, we were interested in comparing the two!

Safety first

The Pebble Gear Kids’ Tablet has been specifically designed to give children safe and secure access to the digital world, by offering a space that is ad-free with zero pop-ups and no opportunity for in-app purchasing. With over 25 years experience in children’s technology, the Pebble Gear team pride themselves on creating products that parents can trust, therefore there are also no hidden fees when it comes to subscribing.

Pricing (the important bit!)

The tablets are priced at £99.99 and come with a year’s subscription to for FREE. Once the year is over, you’re then welcome to subscribe to GameStore Junior (where all the apps come from) via one of three pricing plans, which start at £4.99 per month.

Once subscribed, you will then be given access to over 500 games and apps, as well as a large selection of e-books, all of which is updated and refreshed every month! There’s also exclusive Disney content included on the tablet too! What’s excellent is that once games and e-books are downloaded, they can still be accessed without the requirement of Wi-Fi.

What comes in the box?

  • The 7″ tablet, which features:
    • Two cameras
    • 16GB of storage (which can be expanded with the use of a MicroSD card, up to 128GB)
    • 8ohm speaker
    • 1024 × 600 resolution (which features advanced anti-blue light control that reduces eye-strain)
    • Approximately 7 hour battery life

  • User manual
  • One year subscription to GameStore Junior
  • Two year guarantee

Within each tablet, parents can create different user profiles per child as well as keep an eye on usage via the ‘Parents Zone’ where time limits can also be set. There’s also the option to create a more personalised experience (for example, setting priority for educational apps over games) with the easy-to-use dashboard.

Online, you can also purchase different accessories, from carry bags and protective sleeves to screen protectors.

At the moment, the tablet choices available are Toy Story or Frozen, however two new themes are going to be released soon!

What we think…

Whilst we already have another kids tablet in the house, we absolutely think that Pebble Gear could give other tablets a run for their money. Although there are similar safety features to other tablets included, the fact that Pebble Gear can offer exclusive Disney content certainly wins over the Disney fans! There’s also TONS of content that you can’t get elsewhere. It’s also good value for money.

T’s been playing with his Pebble Gear tablet for a while during lockdown and it’s been incredibly useful when he’s needed a bit of a break. I don’t feel guilty as I often set the tablet to prioritise educational apps or books over games, and I know that he’s safe.

The menus for both child and parent are easy to use and navigate and I really appreciate how the tablet has been thought with children at the forefront.

At the moment, his current favourite apps are…

Kids Learn to Sort: With the help of Sorty the Cute Monster, your child can independently learn to sort by shape, size, colour, numerical count, occupation and many more categories.

Moto Rider: Hop on your chosen motorcycle and ride it as fast as you can, overtaking vehicle after vehicle – just try not to crash! This is an excellent game for teaching them about speed and control.

Pango (Series): As well as interactive books, Pango offers young children an opportunity to observe and explore different landscapes within a variety of games, from Hide & Seek to a completely independent sandbox world experience.

Little Jigs ABC Puzzles: Little Jigs ABC Puzzles helps children learn the letters of the alphabet, whilst also practising their cognitive, spacial, and shape recognition skills.

Real Retro Games: ’90s brick games are back! This classic 10-in-1 app will take you back in time and give children a simple, but strategic way to escape.

  26. Question: can you watch films too or is it just games and just Disney books? With some other tablets you can download streaming services but I suspect that is not the case with this one? Thanks.

  99. My son loves both Toy Story and Frozen so the first 2 themes seem great. Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc and Big Hero 6 would be popular in our house!

  100. Seems like a really safe tablet and I love the Disney content! A Wall-E version would be really cute.

  116. Although the Little Mermaid is lovely, I like the older Disney characters in films such as Peter Pan and The Jungle Book.
