At the tail end of last year I found out about a thing called a ‘Bullet Journal’. I was completely oblivious to it and had no idea what it was until I started looking at examples on Pinterest and Instagram.
I’ve always enjoyed planning and making lists. It makes me feel organised and less cluttered upstairs. I have enough going on up in my head without to-do lists and reminders clogging up the paths. For me, I need to get stuff out of my head and onto paper.
To combat this, I have always had a diary and an endless supply of post-it notes, so when I started looking at various bullet journals I was blown away.
How have I never seen these before?
I really liked the idea of controlling the pages, and what goes on them. Too often, a diary or planner will contain pointless (for me, anyway) pages or not have enough room on each page for me to write – so I decided to start my very own bullet journal.

I bought myself a notebook and some new pens (any excuse). I already had pencils and other bits of stationery from my colouring in box. It was set. I already knew what I wanted to put on each page and any other ideas came to me with a little help from Pinterest (a dangerous place in my opinion).
So far…
I’ve jotted out my year and reserved pages for the main diary section at the front of my journal. Each week will be a double spread with the left hand side featuring weekly to-do lists, birthdays and events, blog ideas, food diaries, and even a water log (I need to drink more water!). The right hand side has my Monday to Sunday with reserved spaces for my shifts and other notes.

It’ll be interesting to see how the next few weeks pan out once I return to work. I’m not going to lie, I still have a lot of work ahead, but I’ve already written January and February. If I can get a month created within a week I should have my bullet journal done by March. It seems like a lot of work, but if you think of bullet journaling as a hobby as well as a practical tool it’s no different to someone creating a piece of art or delicious meal.
Over the next few weeks, I want to document my progress and share my other pages. I really do think I’ve found a genuine love for it, plus there seems to be a huge ‘BuJo’ community out there. I’m already an artistic and ‘crafty’ person, but when T came along I couldn’t find time to get back to my creative nature. Therefore, this has definitely sparked my inner Tony Hart.
A community
I’ll be writing a few more posts, but a lot of brainstorming will go on our Twitter @lesbemums or on our Instagram @lesbemums – I’d love for you to join me.
I’m also going to be joining in with the #BringBackPaper linky over at The Reading Residence, as well as #StationerySnapshot with Chelle.
Do you bullet journal? I’d love to see some of your creations! Why do you have a bullet journal? Would you ever start one?

I love the idea of this but I really don’t have the time to dedicate to it. I’ll be watching yours with interest though, it’s looking fab so far! I love the phrase ‘channelling your inner Tony Hart’, made me chuckle!

I don’t have neat enough writing for this – yours really is a work of art. LOVE! x
Awww. Thank you. The hours are certainly worth it, but also; Tippex!
I have a notepad with the same sort of principles as a bullet journal (weekly to do lists; monthly calendars of important dates; random other lists and diagrams as and when I need them) – the ritual of sorting it out on a Sunday evening and near the end of each month is really useful for me. But it’s definitely not pretty and, as an artistic person, I’m not sure why that doesn’t bother me.
Looking forward to hearing more about yours! I’ve loved the pages you’ve shared on Instagram.
I think you convince yourself that the little mistakes or mess are meant to be.
I also don’t think I have time to give that much of a monkeys. I draw everything out in pencil first but if I still make a mistake I have to just carry on. No time. Haha. Years ago I would have started all over!
I started a bullet journal last year, but it got away from me and I gave up. I loved it though, I bought a dotted notebook on Friday and am starting afresh now.
I can see how that happens – it can definitely get overwhelming. Hope this one works out for you!
I love the idea of a bullet journal but the work behind it I’m not so keen on x
