Another month, another blogger to chat to as part of my ‘Person Behind the Parent’ feature!
Last month, we spoke to Sally from Teddy Bears and Cardigans where they told us whilst qualifying as a nurse they managed to study (and pass!) whilst pregnant. Amazing!
This month, we chat to Donna from What The Redhead Said. One of the busiest bloggers I know, but is one of the very few I have actually met in person!
1) Please introduce yourself…
Hi, I’m Donna, mum of two and a full time blogger.
2) Where can we find you?
I’ll start with some easy ones…
3) What’s your favourite food?
Nachos. I could eat nachos all day every day and if I go to a restaurant and they have nachos on the menu I am instantly happy. But, I love food – pretty much any food – so I’m not usually disappointed where food is concerned!
4) What’s your favourite film?
It may actually be the new Trolls movie. I know, it’s a children’s film but I haven’t left the cinema feeling so happy and alive in years. It was just so much fun! If we’re talking ‘proper’ movies then probably A Few Good Men. I love a courtroom drama and this is a classic!
5) What’s your favourite book?
I love the Harry Potter series and read them every year. They’re books I can get completely sucked into and put everything else aside to read them.
6) Do you have any hobbies?
Blogging was my hobby but now it’s my job – but I still see it as a hobby as I love it so much. Aside from that I don’t really have any hobbies.
7) Tell us one guilty pleasure
Old school embarrassing music. Ant & Dec, Westlife, Boyzone, Aqua…
8) Tell us something quirky about yourself
I have one long sighted and one short sighted eye. Getting new glasses is a nightmare!
9) Tell us something we don’t know about you
Ah everyone knows so much when your life is online! Erm, I went to school with Keira Knightley. No Way!!!
10) One word to describe yourself would be…
Now some harder ones…
11) Children aside, what has been your proudest moment?
Giving up my day job to be self employed. I work so hard over the years before getting to that point that it felt like all the hard work had finally paid off – and I was so proud of myself.
12) Children aside, what has been your biggest achievement?
My blog.. I have never stuck to a hobby for this long and I have never accomplished so much as I have with this blog. I have been shortlisted for awards, have been in the Tots100 Top 10 for the past 12 months and have really found a place for myself within the blogging community that I love so much. So my blog and everything that comes with it would be my biggest achievement.
13) If you could meet one person (dead or alive) who would it be and what would you say?
Robin Williams and I would thank him for the laughs. I grew up watching his movies and I have started introducing the children to them and I’m in awe of someone that can be so naturally funny. I’d just like him to know it’s appreciated – even now. That’s a good one.
14) If you weren’t where you are now, where would you be? What would you be doing?
I think life could have taken me down a different route at one point – volunteering abroad, never laying down any roots and just moving from one place to another. If that had been the case, I would probably be on a beach somewhere, fighting never ending sunburn and with a freckle farm for a face!
15) If you could be one person for the day who would it be?
I would actually love to be in prison for a day. I know, weird. But, I’ve always wondered what it’s like inside – is it scary? Is it boring? I’d love to know more about that world without having to actually be part of it.
16) If you could travel to one place in the whole world where would you go?
I’d love to go to New York. I wouldn’t want to go without the children but they’re too young at the moment to truly appreciate it but out of everywhere, that is where I would love to go.
17) If you could learn one thing, what would it be?
I’d love to learn how to swim properly. I never learnt as a child and although I can splash about enough to save my life I find swimming exhausting and terrifying. I’m only happy in water if I know I can touch the bottom so I’d love to learn to swim but also learn to be confident in water.
18) If you could tell yourself one thing, what would it be?
It is just a phase – it too shall pass.
19) Where is your happy place?
Home. Such a cliche isn’t it? But, I’m happy at home, sitting in the garden in the sun or on the sofa with a blanket. I just love being at home, especially with the family. It makes me happy.
20) What is your life metaphor or mantra?
Happiness is not a destination, it’s a way of life.
