The Person Behind the Parent {Sally: Teddy Bears and Cardigans}
Another month, another blogger to chat to as part of my ‘Person Behind the Parent’ feature!
Last year (!) we spoke to Leanne from A Slice of my life in Wales where they told they’d love to be their daughter for the day which I thought was a brilliant idea!
This month, we chat to the lovely Sally from Teddy Bears and Cardigans! A blogger based in Cardiff, but also a grandmother to Bear. They blog about their travels with Bear and what they get up to.
1) Please introduce yourself…
Hi I’m Sally a Granny blogger over at www.teddybearsandcardigans.com. I am a retired theatre sister and spend four days a week looking after my grandson, Bear. My blog is mostly about what we do with a bit of everything else thrown in. I’d love to do more sewing and knitting but at the moment just cannot find the time.
2) Where can we find you?
I’ll start with some easy ones…
3) What’s your favourite food?
Pastry. Anything wrapped in pastry from tarts to pies to sausage rolls and quiches. Me too!
4) What’s your favourite film?
I have some old favourites like the original Arthur with Dudley Moore, Top Gun with Tom Cruise, anything that has Tom Hanks in it. I love romantic comedies like Love Actually, Sleepless in Seattle and Pretty Woman. I also love Tarantino and lots of foreign language films. I love British films such as The Lady In The Van and The Real Marigold Hotel, I really cannot think of one that shines over all the others.
5) What’s your favourite book?
It was Bram Stokers Dracula until I read Pillars of the Earth but I was given a copy of The Game Of Thrones which I am half way through. I love it. I have not seen the TV series so it’s all new. I understand there are eight books in the series and each one is the size of a house brick so I should be happy for a long time.
6) Do you have any hobbies?
Blogging! It has taken over my life. I also love researching my family tree and have a few posts on my blog about how to… and some interesting pool in my tree. I love lying in the sun and reading. Sewing and knitting but I haven’t doe any of them for ages due to lack of time.
7) Tell us one guilty pleasure.
Oh I can’t think of anything that makes me feel guilty! Does eating a whole box of chocolates count? No that’s greedy. Flowers I think. I would love fresh flowers delivered every day.
8) Tell us something quirky about yourself.
I have seen babies being born, I have held the hands of people dying.
9) Tell us something we don’t know about you.
My second labour was totally painless and I had my daughter on my front room floor
10) One word to describe yourself would be…
Chatty
Now some harder ones…
11) Children aside, what has been your proudest moment?
Seriously I do not have one. I am one of those people that have proud moments but then life goes on and I have another. I do not have anything that stands out.
12) Children aside, what has been your biggest achievement?
Qualifying as a nurse. I became pregnant with my first child whilst I was training. I worked full time with shifts and our families were far away so we had no help. I managed to study and pass my exams.
13) If you could meet one person (dead or alive) who would it be and what would you say?
My great great grandmother. I would love to sit and ask her about her life, who her “husband” really was and who was the father of my great great grandmother!
14) If you weren’t where you are now, where would you be? What would you be doing?
I moved to Cardiff when I was 19. I had lived in Greece for a year and in Stevenage before that. I have always loved sailing and the water so I would be on a boat on the Norfolk Broads
15) If you could be one person for the day who would it be?
My husband. He has a bad hip, he’s waiting for an operation and is in constant pain, if I could be him I’d have some idea of how much he is suffering.
16) If you could travel to one place in the whole world where would you go?
Japan when the cherry blossom is in full bloom
17) If you could learn one thing, what would it be?
To drive a car. I can’t drive and now feel I am too old.
18) If you could tell yourself one thing, what would it be?
Learn to drive a car! The world isn’t getting greener or more public transport friendly. I have more problems now than I ever had. If you cannot drive you cannot get anywhere.
19) Where is your happy place?
Home. I love my home and being there.
20) What is your life metaphor or mantra?
Do unto others what you would wish them to do to you
