Our 2021

It’s time once again for a round-up of the past 12 months! I always enjoy writing these posts, even when they involve a global pandemic – like we did in 2020 – as these posts are for us. Their aim is to record some of our highlights and milestones so that, one day, when we feel like reading back on what we got up to when T was young, we don’t have to rely on my memory!

Whilst still very much in the midst of a global pandemic, 2021 allowed us a little bit of freedom to travel and explore. We got to go camping a few times this year, and towards the end of the year even saw us explore a bit more of London! We’ve also been lucky enough to collaborate with some incredible brands and organisations – some of which were ‘pinch-us’ moments. This year also saw some big changes when it came to T. He’s growing into an incredible human – it’s truly a wonder witnessing who he’s becoming.

2021

January – March

Starting the year with hope that we were coming to the end of restrictions (lol), we started as we meant to go on by getting ourselves out and about. We found a couple of new walks local to us and pretty much spent January in our walking boots.

February was LGBT+ History Month, which meant I fully submerged myself into creating some more LGBTQ+ content, and March saw another Mothers’ Day weekend for us to celebrate as T’s mums.

April – June

April is always a highlight of our year as it’s both T’s and Sharon’s birthdays. This year T turned 6, although we still weren’t able to celebrate the way we were used to previously due to another national lockdown. With this, we celebrated at home and had ourselves a family party – rainbow balloons and all.

In May we were able to fully enjoy some of the – albeit limited – UK spring and summer weather, exploring the newly developed One Garden in Stanmer Parkas well as our favourite National Trust locations. June then saw us celebrating Pride Month, allowing us to talk about allyship and ways folks can support LGBTQ+ folk virtually!

July – September

No sooner was T back at school after Christmas, we were suddenly reaching the end of another school year. July to August saw us truly enjoy the summer holidays, which was a vast difference in comparison to last year (although Brighton Pride was another no-go this year). We did, however, take part in a wonderful Family Photoshoot with Bex Photo!

Throughout the summer we enjoyed a number of days out in and around Sussex as well as London. We also took ourselves off to Cornwall to camp with family. Our highlight was visiting the gorgeous Wylde Valley campsite, which was a new venture for us as we’d never visited the area of Bude.

October – December

As soon as T started Year 2 at school, the weather suddenly changed and we were very much into autumn and winter. In October we went to a local farm and chose our pumpkins for Halloween. This year we decided on a Pokémon theme, which saw T dress up as Ash to go trick or treating.

November and December flew by what with Christmas prep. But not before squeezing in one more trip to London. This allowed us to see the city in full Christmas bloom. December was then all things Christmas and we enjoyed a relatively relaxing Christmas at home. In comparison to last year, we were able to see some family and friends, although we still restricted ourselves to our local family and friends.

Looking forward…

It wouldn’t be an update without acknowledging how much T has grown this year. Although we talk about his growth within his birthday update, the time that passes between his birthday and Christmas often sees the biggest change occur.

This year T started football club at school, and he’s come on leaps and bounds when it comes to his overall learning. As mentioned over on our Instagram @lesbemums, the conversations we have now are so meaningful. He’s such a kind and empathetic young boy. He’s also funny and incredibly smart. It’s been a joy watching him grow, even in the small space of time since starting Year 2.

At the end of these posts, we always enjoy passing on our thanks to everyone who has followed us the past 12 months. I hope you’ve enjoyed our travels as much as we have! As always, thank you for supporting us and being an awesome community – we’re so lucky to have you. We’d also like to thank the brands who have worked with us this year, as well as other diverse families. It’s such a pleasure being allowed to be visible and express ourselves on such large platforms. It’s also refreshing to see a variety of faces and bodies on my social feeds.

Next year, we look forward to hopefully going further afield, not only personally with our travels but also with our brand work. We have some exciting new trips already booked as well as others in the planning stages! We look forward to sharing those with you very soon, including one trip that’s been a dream of ours for quite some time!

Happy New Year, folks!
